Editor’s Note
Dear Reader,
Extended Reality (XR), the umbrella term for what is
perhaps currently the most fascinating consumer
technology, is becoming an exciting new candidate for the
next big trend in the industry, since it includes virtual
(VR), augmented (AR) and mixed reality (MR). VR takes
you into a strange, virtual world using closed glasses,
while AR and mixed reality complement the real
environment with digital elements—be it via smartphone
or tablet or with special glasses.
The usage of Virtual Reality (VR) within businesses is
forecasted to reach $4.26 billion in 2023, according to
ARtillery Intelligence, mainly for training, work meetings or
to provide better customer service. Augmented Reality
(AR) applications are also seeing a surge, in fact they
have doubled in use acceptance over the past two years.
So far, more than 50% of those who have tried AR on
their smartphones used the technology to play games. Subscription
Video filters are almost on par with social media platforms
and one in three used AR applications to find a way (complimentary)
around while traveling and provided them with additional
information. One in five has had furniture for apartment
and house planning visualized using AR, and a similar
number have used AR in education and learning projects.
