phonesRocket Internet’s new mobile classifieds app, Sparklist, revolutionizes the online shopping experience for second hand goods, by connecting the most relevant buyers to the most relevant sellers through proximity sensitive listings and eliminating the nuisance of lengthy commute times.

The company is well-known for identifying and building proven Internet business models and to transfer them to new, underserved or untapped markets, where it seeks to scale them into market leading online companies.
Focused since 2007 on online business models that satisfy basic consumer needs across four main sectors - Commerce, marketplaces, travel and financial technology - Rocket Internet has now more than 30,000 employees across its network of companies, which are active in more than 110 countries.

In a world, where consumers have tons of choices to shop, anytime and anywhere, their attention spans are increasingly getting shorter. Consequently, you need to be able attract customer’s attention quickly and make their digital shopping experience as pleasant and easy as possible.

Sparklist offers, for instance, several social features in its app, to encourage engagement between buyers and sellers alike, including an integrated instant messaging system. Not only does this model enhance social cohesion, it also keeps the wealth of any given community within the community.

Nalla Karunanithy, Founder and Global Managing Director of the online classifieds mobile app, Sparklist, explains, ‘in our mobile app, users can constantly make new connections, find new bargains, and truly harness the immense but hidden socio-economic potential of their own respective communities’.

Sparklist is planned to be launched in emerging markets across the globe and started its journey around two weeks ago in Lahore, Pakistan, and Nalla Karunanithy explains why: ‘Only 4.5% of the population in Pakistan uses smartphones, which alone represents a massive market of 9 million users; as the adoption of smart technology rapidly grows, Pakistan’s market will become increasingly more competitive and first movers will have a distinct competitive advantage’.

How it works

Users can browse through a large assortment of products in their current proximity and find a wide variety of second hand goods. Buyers and sellers can directly communicate, negotiate and engage to conclude a transaction. Showcasing an item is simple, intuitive and secure: snap a photograph of the product you wish to sell; add a description; set a price; and bargain until you find that price. Users are verified through social media integration.
